Sources and Licences

Ouray suggests stories based on its own story catalog and its own database of well-known films and series. The works data comes from free sources of the Wikimedia projects. All requests run on our servers, without any relation to users; your browser loads nothing from these sources.

Wikidata

Titles, year of release, country of origin, genre, type of work, source material ("based on"), series or franchise ("part of"), the year of death of the authors of the source material and the titles of the Wikipedia articles come from Wikidata. The data is available under CC0 1.0 (public domain).

Wikipedia

We use the plot sections of the Wikipedia articles (en and de), or the introduction if there is none, only temporarily: a language model of our AI provider (see the privacy policy) assigns the work to the modules of our story catalog. We neither store nor show any text from Wikipedia, only the module assignments derived from it. Wikipedia texts are available under CC BY-SA 4.0; their authors are listed in the revision history of each article.

Wikimedia page views

We calculate the reach and zeitgeist of a work from the monthly page views of its Wikipedia articles, which the Wikimedia Foundation publishes through the Pageviews API. We only store the monthly totals per work.

Note "source possibly in the public domain"

If a work is based on source material whose last author died more than 70 years ago according to Wikidata, we show this note (Sections 64, 65 and 69 of the German Copyright Act). It only considers the authors of the source material recorded in Wikidata, not other contributors such as illustrators or librettists, and is not a legal review. The film or series itself, its title and everything it adds to the source material remain protected. Translations, adaptations and earlier film versions may have rights of their own, and other countries have different terms of protection. Always have the rights reviewed by a lawyer before exploiting a work.
